Weaning difficulties.
I'm finding it very hard to wean my two-month old daughter off the breast. She cries and refuses the bottle from either my husband or myself. After several hours of this, we're all exhausted so I feed her myself. What can we do, how can I make her understand?
The sucking reflex for the bottle is different to that for the nipple, some children find this very hard to get used to. Be patient, try using a dummy to help her get used to the idea. Don't worry if she doesn't feed, I have never seen a child die from hunger at this age, she will eventually come round. Try to relax about it, even though it is hard, she may also be picking up on your own frustration and anxieties, which won't help.
Make sure her mouth is clean, the rubber nipple can sometimes irritate babies' mouths which might cause her distress. Mention it to your doctor at her next check-up.
