Worries about childhood obesity.
My daughter is ten years old and very big for her age. I wouldn't say she's obese, but she is certainly carrying too much weight!
She is 1m50 tall and weighs 50kg.
Should I take her to the doctor? Or should I wait until puberty in case it is puppy fat?
Take your daughter to the doctor's as soon as possible to get the problem under control. The sooner she is treated, the less likely she is to have a weight problem in adulthood. For her to be so big for her height, she must be eating the wrong things. Always make sure she eats a balanced diet, she could also have developed nutrient deficiencies.
Stop any bad habits now to stabilise her weight, she will carry on growing for a few years yet, so her height will soon balance her figure.
Try to stop her from snacking between meals, drinking fizzy drinks and eating too much sugar and fat. Make her a light evening meal, try to get her interested in salads and encourage her to start a sporting activity.
