Cats and toxoplasmosis.
Hi, I'm 31 and pregnant, and I live in a flat with two cats, who don't go out, but I haven't been immunised against toxoplasmosis. My husband travels a lot and won't be able to look after them through my pregnancy, so I would like to know what the risks are exactly? Can I still stroke and cuddle them? How can I find out of they are infected or not? What advice can you give me? Thanks very much, Ebony
If your cats never go out, then there is no risk of you contracting toxoplasmosis from them. Be careful of other cats and speak to your doctor if you are worried, he will be able to explain the risks and find out about testing. Keeping the house clean and eating healthily, will help to build up your immunity.
