Sex during pregnancy.
Help, I need to reassure the dad to be!
My partner is terrified of harming the baby when we make love, he thinks the unbilical cord will get wrapped round its neck, or that the baby will be born bruised and battered!
He doesn't like the idea of making love to a pregnant women, he thinks that sex shouldn't be important to me at the moment.
Can you recommend a book which will explain to him exactly what happens to our baby when we make love?
Thank you!
Sexual intercourse is perfectly possible during pregnancy, so there is no need to deprive yourselves! It may become more difficult in the third trimester, when your partner will need to be more gentle with you and certain positions will become uncomfortable (or even impossible!) due to your shape. Any good book on having a baby will have information on sex during pregnancy, with diagrams to show the position of your baby at each stage of its development. These should put his mind at rest, once he sees how protected the fœtus is, right inside the womb, cushioned on all sides. The penis is in the vagina during sex, it can't get as far as the womb. Sit down with your partner and explain this to him with a diagram, or take him along to your next check-up and let your doctor explain things to him in more detail.
