Folic acid in early pregna ncy.
Hi, I am a French woman living in England, trying for a baby. My GP has advised me to start taking folic acid supplements before pregnancy and during the first three months, to help the development of my baby.
My breakfast cereal contains folic acid and I have never heard of this in France, so do I still need to take the tablets? I really need your advice. Thank you so much.
Folic acid (vitamin B9) is known to help the development of the ftus' spinal cord and guard against brain defects. It is just as sensible to prescribe folic acid at the beginning of your pregnancy as it is to prescribe iron for anaemia. Taking any type of vitamin is good for you, trust your doctor, he knows what he is talking about!
