Concealer or foundation?

Can I use a paler foundation instead of concealer, does it have the same effect?

Concealer is much thicker than foundation so it covers blemishes much more effectively. I realise that concealers do not come in such a wide choice of shades (MAC have an excellent range), but you can mix it with your foundation. Otherwise, why not try using a foundation stick, as they give better coverage.
