I recently heard that foundation stops you from tanning. Is this true of all foundations, or can you get some which even skin tone and let you bronze?

Some, not all foundations contain SPF. It is recommended to use one with approx factor 30, in order to protect your skin from damaging UV rays. Anything lower will allow you to catch the sun. However, if you are wearing a lot of foundation, it is unlikely that your skin will have any exposure.
