Greasy Hair

Sophie, 14 - I have to wash my hair every other day as it gets really greasy. Can I do anything to stop it happening so quickly? It is really disgusting!

Sophie, at fourteen, your body is undergoing huge hormonal changes, and side effects such as greasy hair, are the norm. Use shampoo for greasy hair, but try not to wash it more than twice a week, as you are actually aggrivating the problem: If you wash your hair too often, your scalp will produce even more sebum (oil) to replace what has been lost. Clay based masks are also very good for cleaning the hair. Avoid over-brushing and fiddling with your hair, as both stimulate the sebacious glands. If the problem persisits, you may want to visit a dermatologist, however I am sure that it will calm down, given time.
