History: Mout is the second female figure after Isis in Egyptian mythology, and literally means "mother". Represented as a female wearing the double crown of High and Low Egypt, she can also take the dangerous form of a lion or vulture. It's not surprising therefore, that the hieroglyph for Mout is a vulture.
Mout may have also taken on the "dangerous" personalities of lion goddesses, like Sekhmet. The characters of the two goddesses came to complement each other, then amalgamated over time to produce that of an ambivalent divinity with the destructive powers of Sekhmet, yet the peaceful side of Mout.
