Under the influence

Break up don't: Booze and dump

Getting a little fire in our bellies before a break up is a terrible idea. Apart from not having total control over what you're saying there's a risk you won't quite remember what was said - and your relationship deserves more than that.

Jennifer, 25, says: "I had had enough of the fights with my ex so I broke up with him after a boozy night in with the girls. It was a really insensitive way to finish things."

Break up do: Have a sober moment

If you have to booze post break up then do it in style - nights out, or nights in with your closest mates, house parties or divorce parties, breaking up usually leads to a few glasses of wine.

breaking up with someone in a drunken stupour has no style at all - and doesn't give credit to your relationship. So before you drink, think.
