The
snake is the first animal mentioned in the Bible, who offered
Eve the forbidden fruit and condemmed her to a mortal existence.
Snakes represent instincts or feelings that we try to repress,
they are also signs of curiosity and awakening and very
often have a sexual meaning. It is an ambiguous symbol,
linked to the spiritual world representing knowledge and
understanding, yet also with strong sexual overtones. A
paradox in dreams, it can mean either death or healing.
The threatening snake
An angry snake represents a desire which may harm the dreamer,
or threaten their wellbeing. This is usually sexual, but
not always.
It can refer to feelings the dreamer has for someone, or
feelings someone else may have for the dreamer - the rest
of the dream should explain this. If you dream about an
angry snake, you are aware that the desire is in some way
unacceptable and may threaten you as the snake does in the
dream.
Coiled snakes
Coiled snakes usually symbolise the cycle of life, often
appearing at times when the dreamer is tired, or going through
a difficult time, to remind them that they have the skills
and strength needed to continue. It's a powerful image of
support in hard times - try to protect yourself against
life's difficulties.
The talking snake
A snake which speaks in your dreams represents wisdom and
knowledge. They can often be interpreted as a message from
the subconscious, the instinctual part of yourself. Try
to remember the words the snake said, or if they were unintelligible,
think hard and follow your instincts on an important matter.
A snake which wakes up
A snake which is sleeping and them wakes up in your dream,
represents a desire which the dreamer may have been supressing
for a long time, which has just been re-awakened. This desire
may be sexual or creative, but it always comes as a message
from the depths of the dreamer's being. Don't be afraid,
think about it and try to understand its meaning, before
acting on it.
