BBC and ITV battle to sign up Team GB to reality TV shows

Team GB are soon to become the UK’s most bankable stars.

It a bid for ratings gold themselves, ITV and BBC are keen to sign up the Olympic athletes.

The Sun reports that three reality shows are currently competing for the gold medal winners to appear on Strictly Come Dancing, I’m A Celebrity and Dancing On Ice.

Major targets include cyclists Bradley Wiggins and Elizabeth Armitstead, sailing star Ben Ainslie, gymnast Beth Tweddle and swimmer Rebecca Adlington.

Casting chiefs are racing to recruit Team GB heroes and it’s thought that they could bank big money by trading the rival shows off against each other.

According to The Sun, ITV have reportedly sanctioned fees close to six figures in a bid to tempt the cycling champs into the I’m A Celeb jungle.

An ITV source revealed: “It’s war between the rival shows to get the biggest Olympic names signed up and smash their rivals out of the water.

“The nation has fallen in love with the Games and the most popular athletes have shot to the top of the celeb target lists.”

Although ITV are prepared to spend big to get the Olympic stars on their shows, it would seem that they will have a fight on their hands from the BBC.

A BBC source admitted: “Our priority is to secure as many London 2012 medal winners for this series of Strictly as possible. We want to get some big sporting names on board.”

Strictly bosses have already signed up big ballet name Darcey Bussell, who will be joining the judging panel as a replacement for Alesha Dixon.

In a bid to make this the most successful series of the ballroom dancing show so far, BBC bosses have sent the former ballerina on a crash course in ballroom dancing - to ensure she cannot be not blasted by Strictly fans for lack of knowledge on the dances.

A source told The Sun: “Darcey is a high profile signing for the Beeb. They don’t want her getting tripped up by not knowing what she’s talking about.”
