Gail Porter quits the UK for rehab in South AfricaGail Porter has revealed that she's signed up to an intense three-month rehab programme in South Africa to conquer her alcohol addiction and depression.The former TV presenter has had a difficult few years - she's gone through a marriage break up, has battled alopecia and depression and has even been sectioned.
So she's decided to take action. She told The Sun: “I’m terrified. I’m scared to death. But I also think this is the happiest I’ve ever been. I think this is the best thing I could do to get me out of the state I’m in.” Gail, 41, will live in spartan accommodation in the Cape Town facility and will be shut off from her friends, family and phone. Her only communication with the outside world will be via Skype chats with her nine-year-old daughter Honey. She will spend a month getting up at 7.30am, going for a walk on the beach, cleaning, attending lectures, trauma groups and 12-step meetings. The final two months will be a less intensive program for the 41-year-old. Gail knows it will be hard, but that she's making the right decision. She continued: "I’ve always had an addictive nature. It isn’t just drinking. I’m addicted to everything, even to cleaning." Gail split with husband Dan Hipgrave in 2005 - four years after she gave birth to their daughter Honey. In the same year, she lost all her hair and in 2011 she was sectioned under the Mental Health Act after doctors wrongly feared she was suicidal. “Recently, I’ve put on a brave face in the media but the truth is that I’m really upset and I need help. So I’m off to try to sort my head out. Not my hair, but my head.” Let's hope things get better for Gail. |
