Gary Barlow blames average contestants for X Factor ratingsThe new series of X Factor has debuted to less than stellar ratings figures, but Gary Barlow has firmly laid the blame on poor acts.
The 41-year-old told The Metro that the dip in audience numbers are not due to his contribution to the show as the audience don’t just tune in to see him critique the performers.
The Take That star has said that he blames the previous series because the acts were “pretty average”, whereas 2012 looks like it will be a year of bumper talent.
The father-of-four told The Metro: “I don’t know about audience figures. To be honest it’s not my problem.
“They are not going to get more audience figures because my critique is better. They are not tuning in to see me. “They are tuning in to see people become stars.” Gary is clearly reluctant to carry the burden over the ratings slump and surprisingly Mr Nice attacks the talent quotient of last year’s stars. Speaking about Little Mix, Marcus Collins and Amelia Lily, Gary says: “My complaint at the end of last year is I thought the contestants weren’t good enough. “I thought we had a pretty average year last year and this year coming back I am really stoked.” The X Factor judge is delighted to have this season's Over 28s, as previously he’s complained that the category has become a joke and full of novelty acts. While Gary will to focus on the talents of the older contestants, Louis is managing the groups, Tulisa is looking after the girls and Nicole Scherzinger has the boys. Only time will tell if this series turns out to be compulsive viewing, but Gary has a rather weighty task on his hands as so far audience figures for X Factor 2012 are already 2.6million down on last year’s series.
