Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck chefs die in Hong Kong crashCelebrity chef Heston Blumenthal is mourning two top chefs from his Fat Duck restaurant after they were involved in a car crash in Hong Kong.
It's though the driver of one of the double-deckers collapsed at the wheel, causing the vehicle to smash the chefs' taxi into the other bus. Fifty people were injured in the tragic incident and the taxi's driver, Wong Kim-Chung, 53, also died. A Fat Duck spokesman said: "They were both senior members and great and dear friends. Two uniquely talented chefs loved by everyone who worked with them. "They will be sadly and deeply missed. The entire team are devastated." Heston, 46, whose Fat Duck restaurant has three Michelin stars, was thought to be in Hong Kong with the men. His son, Jack - who's an aspiring chef - wrote on Twitter: "2 chefs from the Fat Duck duck killed in a car cash in Hong Kong :/ My Best goes out to the friends and families and everyone at the Duck. "So tragic, R.I.P." Top chef Raymond Blanc, also paid his condolences: "My heart and my thoughts are with the families of the 2 young chefs from the Fat Duck & with Heston & the whole team at this tragic time. RB." And This Morning host Phillip Schofield tweeted: "Deepest condolences to the families & friends of the two chefs from the Fat Duck killed in HK. Also thoughts & love to Heston & his team." Christian Cotton worked with Jorge at Terre à Terre restaurant in Brighton before the chef found his job at the Fat Duck in 2006. Personnel manager Christian said: "He started as a commis chef before he became chef de partie. "I saw him about a year-and-a-half ago when he was visiting Brighton with his young child. "We are really upset, a lot of us have been here quite a few years and knew him personally, we worked together and played together. "He was an absolutely lovely chap, very gentle, lovely chef to work with. We were really pleased for him to get the job at the Fat Duck." |
