The TV funny man's problems started when he decided to stop taking antidepressants he'd been on for 15 years - despite ITV's strict warnings that he had to carry on his prescription while in the jungle.
He added: "It all got very serious and legally binding. If I'd brought these tablets in I've got to take them."
Furthermore, Brian struggled to cope with the lack of food and sleep he received in camp. He started to feel "really bad" and had no choice but to leave the show, when he was rushed straight to hospital and told by doctors he was suffering from malnutrition and exhaustion. Brian continued: “They then sedated me in hospital and gave me a tablet that would probably knock out a horse for two days. I woke up with a saline drip in my arm thinking, 'what on earth has happened here?!'" The 51-year-old went on to explain that he felt he had to be honest with producers about deciding against taking his medication. He said: "It was bad, I felt bad because it was out of my control. It was their decision. I couldn’t lie to them, I'm an honest guy. I couldn’t go ‘yes I’ve taken my tablets course I have’ because they never examine you taking it." Nonetheless, Brian feels positive about what he's achieved and despite the drama has decided he doesn't need to take anti-depressants anymore. He continued: "I feel very proud that I stuck to my guns and that I said well I have to go I feel very proud that I didn’t saunter out and walk straight into the Versace - that I had to be sedated because of exhaustion. "I feel very proud that I got through it and it actually made me a much stronger man and you’re looking at someone who doesn’t need anti-depressants and I realise that now.” Married dad-of-two Brian went on to stress that though it's a prime-time reality show, I'm A Celebrity is extremely testing for the contestants. He said: "You know, my kids said you’ve got to go out there and win the stick, because I always joke with them 'What do you get if you win?' - 'You win a stick.' "And I'm now lying in hospital being heavily sedated with a saline drip because I suffer from malnutrition and exhaustion, all because of a lovely, fluffy show that Ant and Dec do. "I can tell you it’s not fluffy out there - it’s the real world and it’s tough, it’s really tough." Last night's episode of I'm A Celebrity saw Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts win eight out of a possible 10 stars in the Terror Train Bushtucker Trial. And Kajagoogoo singer Limahl became the second celebrity to be voted out of the jungle. |
