I'm A Celebrity 2012: ITV in crisis after Brian Conley's "collapse"It's been revealed that Brian Conley quit I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! after he suffered a "huge collapse".
The TV comedian's poor health has reportedly left his wife Anne-Marie questioning why Brian was left in the jungle for so long by show bosses.
“He’s lost a lot of weight and is exhausted. Doctors have prescribed lots of rest until he recovers.
“Anne-Marie was hugely supportive of Brian’s decision to go on the show, but now you can’t blame her wishing he hadn’t. “She wants to know how this happened and why bosses did not intervene earlier.” Brian was camping and surviving on little more than rice and beans for 10 days before his health dramatically deteriorated. He was rushed to hospital and Anne-Marie and his daughters Amy, 15, and Lucy, ten, quickly flew to Australia to be by his bedside. Brian was reportedly released from hospital last night, while I'm A Celeb bosses held crisis talks to deal with the fallout.
All contestants who enter the jungle have to pass a string of tests to ensure they'll be able to cope with the pressures, stress and lack of food in camp. The source said: “We pride ourselves on ensuring celebrities are equipped for the challenge, but it seems one slipped through the net.” But viewers saw Brian - who has previously battled alcoholism and depression - slowly appear to fall apart after an altercation with boxer David Haye and a tiff with TV chef Rosemary Shrager. And many worry whether former Coronation Street actress Helen Flanagan, 22, is well enough to be on the show - she passed the psychiatric test but has in the past suffered panic attacks and depression. But an ITV spokesman last night insisted the stars' health is their main priority. They said: "The safety and welfare of our contestants is of paramount importance. "All contestants are assessed by independent medical experts. We also have contact where necessary with the celebrities’ GPs. “Medical personnel are also available 24 hours a day to provide support if it is needed.” |
