X Factor 2012: Lucy Spraggan inspired by older woman flingOpenly gay X Factor finalist Lucy Spraggan has revealed the inspiration behind her first album Top Room At The Zoo.
The 20-year-old singer, who came out aged 14, says that most of her songs are about her relationship with an older woman.
Penned before she auditioned for the 2012 series of the X Factor, Lucy wrote about the brief affair she had with a female nine years her senior. The Sheffield-born singer told Now magazine: "When I was 18 I went to America for three months on my own and fell for a 27-year-old. Most of the songs on my album are about her." While most in the public eye struggle to come out, Lucy has been very open and upfront about her sexuality and is proud to be considered an inspiration to other young lesbians who are afraid of being honest with their friends and family. The Last Night singer previously told The Sun: “It’s been amazing. I’ve done gigs and some young girls there said they were watching TV with their parents. “They heard my music, their parents loved it, found out I was gay, still loved it and they’ve said, ‘Oh, I’m gay as well,’ and their parents have been fine.” Lucy told Look magazine that she’s currently single, explaining: "I was seeing a girl for about five months, but she's going to Thailand for a year. “It's heartbreaking, but I'd much rather have loved her than never met her. There's no way I'd want her to change her plans." Although the guitar player has said that she’s looking for love, this weekend sees the start of the X Factor live shows so she’ll undoubtedly be too busy for a relationship for the next few months! |
