Nick Grimshaw thought he was in trouble when he got Radio 1 jobNick Grimshaw has revealed that he was worried he was going to get a telling off when he was taken aside by controller Ben Cooper and told he'd landed the Radio 1 breakfast show job.
Grimmy, who takes over from Chris Moyles, 38, in September, says the early morning slot has been "a dream of his" since he was 11. The 27-year-old said after Chris announced the news on Wednesday: "I found out yesterday morning. "I thought I was in trouble with Ben. So I went in and I was complaining that I got up early. And he's like, 'Well, you're going to have to start getting up a little bit earlier'." Nick admits it was difficult to keep his mouth shut after being told the exciting news.He added: "We were going to put it out yesterday, but then they decided not to.
"Which meant that I couldn't tell anyone for 24 hours, so I couldn't talk to anyone. It's been a weird day." Chris - dubbed 'the saviour' of Radio 1 - has been waking up the nation for over eight years. He'll now go on to star as King Herod in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical, Jesus Christ Superstar. Chris admits it was "pretty amazing" to be called up by 64-year-old Andrew and asked to star in the popular production. He said: "There is only one thing to respond with...and that is yes. Absolutely. "My mum's gonna be well excited." Chris is a pretty nifty singer - he was a semi-finalist on The X Factor: Battle Of The Stars in 2006 and has even sung with Michael Bublé (jealous!). |
