The short sketch - which was a highlight of Danny Boyle’s amazing spectacle - showed Daniel Craig as 007, turning up at Buckingham Palace and reporting for duty.
Her majesty and the iconic spy jumped in a helicopter and skydived out over the Olympic stadium to kick off the start of the Games.
But The Sun have revealed that her grandson Prince William was also originally going to be involved and was enlisted to be the helicopter pilot that flew them to the ceremony.
Insiders said that the young Royal, in full pilot gear, would have been seen turning to the camera and smiling as a lookalike playing his “gran” plummeted to the ground. As an RAF Search and Rescue pilot, Wills - who is currently expecting his first child with Kate Middleton - has plenty of experience flying helicopters. Yet a BBC source has said that he was bafflingly axed from the comedy stunt by aides, who reportedly didn’t want him to take attention away from the monarch. This has come as a surprise to many as over the summer Prince Harry declared that neither he nor William was aware of the stunt. He joked to The BBC: “Both of us were slightly surprised with our grandmother's secret hobby of parachuting.” His brother William added: “We were kept completely in the dark about it, that's how big the secret was. “Harry got a sniff of a rumour on the night and the rumour mill was going into overdrive but in fact she did such a good performance that she's been asked to star in the next Bond film. I'm thrilled for her.” |
