Good Girl Gone Bad singer Rihanna
is suing her former accountants and seeking unspecified damages, claiming that she's lost millions of dollars because of their negligence.
Rihanna filed the lawsuit against Berdon LLP under her real name Robyn Fenty at Manhattan Federal Court on Tuesday (03.07.12), alleging that they've caused her “significant financial losses” between 2005 and 2010.
The suit accuses the firm of charging ''exorbitant'' commissions from her Last Girl on Earth Tour, as well as mishandling her taxes and failing to uncover millions in unpaid royalties.
The 24-year-old, who was born in Barbados, began working with Berdon LLP when her career first took off aged 16.
In the suit she claims she was ''a minor with a booming music career and no knowledge or understanding of financial matters whatsoever.''
Her lawyers continued: ''Between 2005 and 2010, [Rihanna's tour company] Tourihanna suffered significant losses due to defendants' financial mismanagement and other acts and omissions.''
Rihanna only received six percent in commissions from her tours between 2007 and 2010, whereas her accountants earned an estimated 23 percent of the total tour income.
A spokesperson for Berdon LLP has not commented on the accusations.
