The 26-year-old actor is notoriously guarded about his private life and the pair only recently went public with their relationship, despite rumours that they've been a couple since 2009.
But Robert has now opened up about his difficult relationship with the press.
He told BlackBook magazine: “There was this magazine, with these pictures, saying I was getting married. No one ever knows what is true or what isn’t. “Even my own mum called to ask me if it was true.” It’s not just the rumours that are frustrating the Breaking Dawn star, as he feels that his words get twisted by journalists who are just out for a juicy story about him and his 22-year-old girlfriend. The exasperated star explained: “You try to say things in the perfect way but you know unless you say something stupid, from which people will make you look like a dick, you’re not going to have soundbites. “And if you don’t say anything stupid, someone’s going to make something up anyways.” Speculation the Twilight co-stars are planning to walk down the aisle has escalated recently after the pair were reportedly seen ring shopping together. Rob admits that he tries to plant false stories to stop the marriage rumours, but it doesn’t seem to work. He reveals: “I once started a rumour that there was a deleted scat sex scene in Twilight and it didn’t even get picked up. “I thought, ‘What the f***? I’m giving you this stuff!’” |
