One Direction, Muse and Spice Girls set for Olympics Closing CeremonyOne Direction, Muse and the Spice Girls will head up a bumper night of entertainment at the London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony.
Obviously hoping to make as much of a splash as Danny Boyle’s mammoth Opening Ceremony, LOCOG have signed up a whole host of stars to perform on Sunday night.
Former X Factor contestants turned global superstars One Direction are just one of the acts that have been signed up.
Reportedly the One Thing singers have been given their own moving island for a five-minute cameo in the show.
Harry, Zayn, Liam, Niall and Louis will perform their hit What Makes You Beautiful from a carnival-like flat-bed truck, moving around the athletics track at Stratford's Olympic Stadium. An insider revealed to the Daily Mirror: “It's all hush-hush and the boys have been sworn to secrecy. “But they've been at rehearsals and can't wait to do their bit. It will be an unforgettable occasion and they feel privileged to be a part of it.” The Spice Girls will be reforming for one night only, despite reported squabbles between Victoria Beckham, Mel B and Geri Halliwell. Recently Victoria teased fans by tweeting a photo of a sparkly microphone with the caption: “Look what I found! x VB”. According to The Mirror their set is said to be “absolutely ingenious” and will see them perform their debut hit Wannabe. Muse, Madness, The Who and the Pet Shop Boys have been added to the bill, which will see the very best in British music perform in the bumper concert. Reportedly the performers have been rehearsing for eight hours a day for the past eight days straight in a bid to ensure that the gig tops Danny Boyle's Opening Ceremony. Although Take That were scheduled to make an appearance, this has been put into doubt following the tragic loss of Gary Barlow’s daughter Poppy who was born stillborn. Their space may be filled by Kate Bush, who could be making a surprise comeback appearance too, after a remix of her track Running Up That Hill appeared on Amazon.
