Strictly 2012 final: Louis Smith crowned champion after topless Showdance

Last night saw Louis Smith crowned Strictly Come Dancing champion 2012.

The much hyped final of the show's most successful series so far saw Louis and his pro partner Flavia Cacace beat Kimberley Walsh, Denise Van Outen and Kimberley Walsh and lift the Glitterball Trophy.

The 23-year-old silver Olympic medal winner told hosts Tess Daly and Bruce Forsyth: "I can finally say I won something in the year 2012!"

He added of his partner: "She has been an absolute legend...She is the nicest person I have ever met."

The judges - Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli - picked each dancer’s first routine.

Denise and James Jordan - who were in the bottom two last week - opened the show with their energetic Jive to Tutti Frutti.

The 38-year-old TV star, who's always proved popular with the judges but less so with the public, earned three 10s and a nine for her opening performance.

Actress Dani Harmer, 23, and her pro partner Vincent Simone then danced the Tango to Adele's Rumour Has It and despite a "couple of wobbles" and "minor stumbling" earned four nines for their routine.

The judges then chose the Viennese Waltz for Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh, 31, and Pasha Kovalev's first dance.

The popular pair danced to Christina Perri's A Thousand Years and were awarded three 10s and a nine.

Louis and Flavia then took on the Salsa, dancing to Time Of My Life and even re-enacting the famous lift.

The judges awarded the pair three 10s and a nine before the dancers were then challenged to each take on a Showdance - where anything goes.

Denise and James' routine to What A Feeling was full of impressive athletic lifts and labelled "epic" by Bruno.

The pair were thrilled to be given four 10s - finally awarded the perfect score after weeks of nines from Craig.

But last night's show was purely decided by the public, the judges' scores merely a guide for viewers.

Dani and Vincent's dramatic routine to Queen's Mama didn't prove quite so popular, earning them three nines and an eight.

Kimberley channelled Beyonce as she danced a "spicy" routine to Crazy In Love with Pasha that earned them three 10s and a nine.

Louis pulled out his best gymnastic moves for his routine to Rule The World with Flavia.

He wore nothing more than a pair of leggings as he lifted Flavia around the dance floor, deservedly scoring a perfect 40 from the judges.

In the results show, Dani and Vincent were sent home straight away - taking fourth place in the competition - before the remaining couples danced their favourite routine from the series.

Denise and James' "unforgettable" Charleston to Walk Like An Egyptian earned them a perfect 40, before Kimberley and Pasha were awarded the same score for their Tango to When Doves Cry.

Louis and Flavia chose the Charleston as their favourite dance, scoring three 10s and a nine (from Craig, of course) for their routine to the sound of Caro Emerald's Dr Wanna Do.

As the votes came in, Robbie Williams took the Strictly stage to perform his new single, Different.

All of the series' stars - from Sid Owen to Jerry Hall to Lisa Riley - then treated the audience to a group routine to River Deep, Mountain High, with the judges even making an appearance on the dance floor.

Louis was then announced as the winner, with gracious joint runner-up Kimberley saying: "It has been absolutely amazing and we have loved every minute of it and I’m so, so happy for Louis."

Denise went on to pay tribute to her partner James, before Louis and Flavia lifted the Glitterball Trophy before taking to the dance floor again and re-enacting the Dirty Dancing lift.
