Strictly 2012: Louis Smith and Flavia set for Dirty Dancing re-enactment

It’s coming up to the third week of Strictly Come Dancing and the competition is certainly hotting up.

As the celebrities prepare for the next set of dances inspired by famous films, it’s been discovered that Olympic gymnast Louis Smith and professional partner Flavia Cacace are going back to the Eighties in order to wow the judges and viewers at home.

A sneak peek at their rehearsals reveal that Louis and Flavia have been hard at work practising the moves made famous in cult 1987 movie Dirty Dancing.

The pair will attempt to recreate the showstopping dance scene, where Johnny Castle (played by Patrick Swayze) famously lifts up Baby (portrayed by Jennifer Grey).

It takes a certain amount of confidence to follow in the late heart-throb’s footsteps, but Louis looks like he just might be able to pull it off.

Obviously needing to employ the skills that won him a silver and bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympics, the 23-year-old gymnast is showing his strength and poise as he raises his Strictly partner over his head.

So far Louis and Flavia have impressed the judges, especially with last week’s waltz to the song Puppy Love, which left the judges gushing with praise.

The pair are currently joint top of the judge’s leaderboard alongside Denise Van Outen and her partner James Jordan.

But if they are able to pull off the much-loved and incredibly technical Dirty Dancing moves, they will most likely see themselves pull ahead in the competition.

Other dances this week include Denise and James' Foxtrot to You've Got a Friend In Me from Toy Story, and TV presenter Fern and her partner Artem's Charleston to the song Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins.

Meanwhile, Michael Vaughan is going in a more racy direction by dancing to Hot Stuff by Donna Summer from the film The Full Monty, and of course model Jerry Hall will re-enact The Graduate by strutting along to Mrs Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel.

Tune in to BBC One at 6.30pm on Saturday night - it's going to be must-see TV!
