Strictly 2012: Sid Owen eliminated after “Halloween nightmare”Former EastEnders star Sid Owen became the third celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing 2012 after his Ghostbusters-themed routine failed to impress the judges.
Not one to hold back, sharp-tongued judge Craig Revel Horwood described his Cha-Cha-Cha with partner Ola Jordan in the iconic Ghostbusters uniform as a “Halloween nightmare”.
After the viewers’ votes were combined with the judges’ scores, the 40-year-old actor found himself in the bottom two alongside actor Colin Salmon and his partner Kristina Rihanoff.
But Colin and Kristina managed to just scrape through with their salsa to Stevie Wonder's Superstition, which meant that Sid had to say goodbye to the show.
The soap star was at a disadvantage for this week’s Strictly as his partner Ola had missed the majority of last week’s rehearsals because her mother suffered a stroke. The 30-year-old dance pro flew home to her native Poland to be with her family, only returning just before Saturday’s live show at the insistence of her mother. Sid instead practised with stand-in dancer Iveta Lukosiute, but he received little sympathy from the judges who accused him of playing it too safe with his routine. Len Goodman told him: “Too safe, you need to go for it more and take risks. If you're going to go down, go down fighting.” Reflecting on his Strictly exit, Sid commented: “I have loved every minute of it, thanks to Ola, she is a hard taskmaster but she has been great and we have had so much fun. “And now I can even feel comfortable going out and maybe having a little dance.” Meanwhile, Olympic athlete Louis Smith has been going from strength to strength and he achieved the highest mark for this series so far for his zombie Tango to Rihanna’s hit Disturbia with partner Flavia Cacace. Other Strictly celebs also surpassed their previous efforts, with both Victoria Pendleton and Michael Vaughan being praised for their spooktacular dances, placing them joint second on the leaderboard. But the honour of scariest dance of the night went to 84-year-old host Bruce Forsyth, who shocked everyone with his moves to catchy Korean pop tune Gangnam Style. |
