Tom Daley wins gold at World Junior Diving ChampionshipsTom Daley and diving partner Jack Laugher won the three metre springboard synchro event at the World Junior Diving Championships in Adelaide.
The pair had flown to Australia earlier in the week to prepare for the competition, which was the 18-year-old’s first since winning an emotional bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympics.
In addition Tom also holds the title of European and World Series platform champion, in what has been a stellar year of dive competitions for the young heartthrob.
His teammate Jack, 17, clearly isn’t doing badly either, as he secured the individual three metre springboard yesterday on the first day of the World Junior Diving Championships.
Jack, who has been tipped as a future world champion by US diving legend Greg Louganis, has only just started training with Tom after the Olympics. Although Tom doesn’t usually compete on the springboard, the pair of British athletes left their rivals trailing behind them with a massive score of 338.85. The nearest challengers were the Russian team, but they trailed 30.83 points behind. Earlier in the week, the Plymouth-born star showed that the sun really does shine out of his trunks, as the MailOnline managed to get some cheeky snaps that make it look as if there is a light coming from his famously tiny Speedos. Tom will no doubt be pleased with his new medal, but while he’s been competing Down Under he’s also managed to pick up two accolades at the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards, winning Male Hottie Of The Year and Best British Sports Star. The diving star tweeted voters to let them know how flattered he was, writing: “Thanks again for everyone that voted for me at the @BBCR1 teen awards :) 2 awesome awards...thanks again for all your support, Love you all!” |
