Simon Cowell's battle to sign former X Factor star Ella HendersonThings really aren’t going Simon Cowell’s way at the moment and he’s not used to it at all.
Ella Henderson’s shock departure from X Factor last week means she won’t be automatically signed to the TV mogul’s Syco record label - a privilege reserved for the winner.
The former frontrunner in the 2012 series of X Factor is understandably receiving a lot of attention from record labels who are keen to develop the 16-year-old’s music career.
Many - including Simon - are already predicting that Ella will become a pop superstar in the mould of previous winner Leona Lewis, who's since gone on to become a multi-platinum selling artist and three-time Grammy award nominee.
As various labels clamour to sign the singing sensation, Simon looks set to have a tough battle on his hands, with The Sun reporting that Columbia, Epic and RCA are also bidding to snare her. Ella’s dad and manager Sean is said to be negotiating the deal with various executives from the Sony Music empire, under which all of the labels are owned. But nothing will be announced until after this year’s series of X Factor ends on 9th December, when the winner of the competition is declared. A source told The Sun that Simon is keen to launch her in the UK and the US simultaneously and has already been boasting to his contacts in America that Ella could be “the new Leona Lewis”. The insider continued: “Ella is the most exciting thing to have come out of this year’s X Factor. “Simon can’t believe she got the boot but he’s not losing any sleep over it as he can see the pound signs in his eyes. “He’s confident Syco will get her but if she goes elsewhere within Sony he’s still quids in.” As Simon has been busy in the US with the second series of US X Factor, he has largely stayed out of the UK show, although he tweeted his shock after Ella was booted off the show last week. The 53-year-old wrote: “Ella! Gone??? Unbelievable”, which was retweeted by over 12,000 followers. Ella herself was devastated to leave the competition before reaching the final stages, but she can be comforted by the fact that she is one of the first X Factor stars to have such a highly publicised bidding war over her. She also looks set to make a hefty pay check due to a slot on the live X Factor tour, which will reportedly earn her tens of thousands of pounds. |
