The new series of X Factor returns with a bang this Saturday

The X Factor judges are back for a new series of the X Factor this Saturday and they mean business!
 - The new series of X Factor returns with a bang this Saturday

After Simon Cowell publicly complained that the talent on the last show wasn’t up to scratch last year, Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh have made reportedly made every effort to step up their game.

They will be joined by new addition Nicole Scherzinger, who’s making the leap from X Factor USA, filling former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland’s vacant seat.

No doubt Nicole will also be replacing Kelly in terms of the X Factor fashion face-off with fellow female judge Tulisa.

Speaking about the latest series, Gary told the Daily Mail: “I think it’s been extraordinary this year. Everybody thinks so. I have even heard cameramen saying to each other that it’s such a massive improvement on last year.

“The standard has definitely gone up a few notches. I think the audience is going to love it.”

This year Gary will reportedly mentor the ‘Over 28’ category and the successful singer/songwriter is keen to overhaul what is traditionally seen as the underdog category, having previously featured acts such as Wagner and Johnny Robinson.

The Take That singer explained: “The category to watch is the Overs. The Overs category hasn’t been taken that seriously in the last few years but it has turned into the biggest contender this year. The standard is superb.”

Tulisa, who won in 2011 in the ‘Groups’ category with Little Mix, is excited with this year’s intake too: “The Groups this year are great. I think after Little Mix winning last year it’s made the Groups who have auditioned really up their game.”

X Factor bosses have tinkered with the format of the show this year, moving the live final from London to Manchester.

They have also enabled acts to sing their own tracks in auditions and those who already have management will be able to enter the talent contest for the first time in history.

Even former judge Cheryl Cole is excited to tune in to the new series of the X Factor, despite her acrimonious firing from the X Factor USA panel last year.

Cheryl revealed on Daybreak earlier in the week: "I will absolutely be watching."

The X Factor returns to ITV1 this Saturday.
