X Factor 2012: Show criticised for Melanie "MILF" apologyX Factor has been criticised for issuing an official apology after judge Tulisa Contostavlos called finalist Melanie Masson a MILF.
Tulisa, 24, sparked the row when she told 44-year-old mum-of-two Melanie after her performance: "You are in full MILF mode!"
Though the comment was made at 10.30pm - a full 90 minutes after the watershed - Dermot said: “I want to apologise for the language Tulisa used. Naughty, naughty but that’s why we love her.”
Fans quickly went into uproar at the decision to say sorry. One wrote: "I cannot believe Tulisa isn't allowed to say MILF at 10.30pm. Has the world gone mad? #xfactor."
Another tweeted: "Tulisa said MILF at 10.30 and that’s not allowed? What?" Producers were soon forced to admit that they'd been "over-cautious and over-sensitive". But it seems there were still some viewers who were unhappy about N-Dubz star Tulisa's choice of language. One wrote on Twitter: "'MILF'???!!! Never thought I'd hear that on the X Factor. I will be writing to my MP on Monday. #xfactor #familyshow."
X Factor said cuts were made for "copyright reasons" after Rylan changed the lyrics of his cover of Gangnam style to "Rylan style". The following evening, on Sunday night, Melanie found herself at the centre of drama once again when she was voted off the show. Melanie - who's mentored by Gary Barlow - was in the sing-off against Louis Walsh's boyband District 3, but her cover of Lorraine Ellison's hit Stay With Me Baby wasn't enough to keep her fighting for another week. The decision went to deadlock after Gary and Nicole Scherzinger decided to save Melanie, while Louis and Tulisa chose GMD3. Melanie had received the fewest public votes and so was sent home. |
