Undoubtedly one of the stand-out vocalists of the competition, the talented 16-year-old had built up a large fanbase and even looked set to be crowned this year’s champion.
Soon after it was announced that Ella had received the fewest votes from viewers, Simon Cowell took to Twitter to express his disbelief. He wrote: “Ella! Gone??? Unbelievable.”
Though she was incredibly popular, it’s believed Ella was sent home because the general public instead chose to vote for the more controversial acts such as Rylan Clark and Christopher Maloney, believing that the talented songstress was safe.
Simon is understandably keen for this not to happen again, so for the 2013 series of X Factor, the TV boss has reportedly decided to reveal the voting figures on the live results shows. This year’s season has also been marred by claims the show is set up and the reality TV mastermind thinks he’ll also be able to stamp out the “fix factor” slurs with this new system. An insider revealed to The Sun: “If the viewers knew popular acts like Ella and James Arthur were pulling in low numbers of votes it would encourage them to pick up the phone." The 53-year-old has already implemented the system on The X Factor USA, where he’s currently on the judging panel alongside Britney Spears, LA Reid and Demi Lovato. The insider added: “Revealing the voting numbers each week has really brought a new dynamic to the US show. “Simon is looking to introduce it in the UK next year as part of a major shake-up.” Sources claim that Simon is hoping his innovation will bring the spark back to the show in his absence, especially after this year has suffered rapidly decreasing ratings. The music mogul is banking on the new leaderboard system giving the ITV show a new edge in the weekend ratings battle, as currently it’s losing out every week to the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. |
