Children and the Internet: how to make the web safe

Before letting your child browse the Internet, put in place some house rules and get to grips with the dangers. Read on for our Q&A...

For our live international chat, sofeminine.co.uk welcomed psychologist Laetitia Chaumontet, who works for Action Innocence (a French organisation that's committed to protecting children and teenagers on the Internet).

During the hour-long chat, parents from the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy sent in questions about the potential risks facing children when they're on the Internet.

How can you be sure that your child hasn't met anyone they shouldn't have? How many hours should they spend on the Internet? Should you ban them from going on social networks? Can violent video games make children more aggressive?

Read on for her answers to your questions...

With thanks to Dr Laeticia Chaumontet and Action Innocence.
