Mood swings and irritability

It's frustrating that so many signs of early pregnancy are also what you expect to feel when you come on your period.

Unfortunately (more for everyone around you) mood swings and irritability are key clues to both.

A body full of galloping hormones and stress - whether you're frantically hoping you are pregnant or praying that you're not - all adds up to make you a little on the crazy side but remember it is not your fault.

If you are planning a pregnancy it's worth pointing this one out to your partner beforehand so he's prepared if you suddenly turn in to Kate Monster or Sobbing Sarah.

To calm yourself down, get lots of sleep, eat right (mood foods - bananas, skimmed milk, dark chocolate, oatmeal and oranges), and get some exercise and fresh air.

Mood swings often ease off as you go into your second trimester but for some women it's, alas, here to stay.
