Wine of the Week: Denbies Flint Valley, West Sussex | |||||||||||||||
West Sussex, UK Alc. 11% from £6.99 - Waitrose It's Saint George's day today and to celebrate we're checking out a lovely bottle of British wine! British wine makers aren't well known which is a shame because there are some amazing producers in this country. Plus you know your plonk hasn't travelled too far before arriving in your glass. This Denbies Flint Valley white is made from Reichensteiner and Seyval Blanc grapes grown in West Sussex. Bella - the hostess - **** Unlike wines from places with a lot of sunshine this doesn't taste like summer - it tastes like a dewy morning in the countryside. It's fresh and crisp. I'd serve this as s wonderful accompaniment to a salad or fish course. It's delicate and would go with subtle lighter dishes. Billie - the lightweight - **** The texture is almost syrupy, but I like it. It's not too heavy and the alcohol content is only 11% which suits me. I'd be happy to drink a couple of glasses of this before dinner or with the girls on a nice sunny afternoon. Vienna - the wine lover - **** Wonderful. This is oaky and fresh, the dry flavour lingers giving this a long finish with notes of vanilla creeping in from the oak-ageing process. It's refreshing and not at all what you'd expect from a Brit producer. |
