Go away. Take someone up on a Christmas invitation this year, or disappear to the other side of the world. Immerse yourself in local traditions, different cultures celebrate Christmas in different ways. If you feel too guilty to go away for Christmas itself, then plan a New Year break to look forward to, and help you get through Christmas that way. Avoiding family tensions has never been so easy...

Our advice:
A little white lie will go a long way when it comes to explaining why you're leaving the country for Christmas. It could be an extended business trip with your husband, or a chance to show the kids another country during the festive season. Don't forget to phone home to show that you're still thinking of them and bring back traditional Christmas gifts from your holidays. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, by the time you get back, you'll by dying to see your family again!
