Position: Where is the clitoris ? It may seem
obvious, but plenty of men and women are not sure
exactly where it is, and some aren't even looking
in the right area! The external part of the clitoris
is just inside the inner vaginal lips, towards the
front. It is covered by a layer of flesh, called the
'hood'.
The hood: The clitoris is protected by a fold
of skin right at the front of the inner lips, similar
to the male foreskin. 'Female circumcision' means
removal of this hood, although in some cultures, the
barbaric reality is the removal of a lot more.
The glans: The end of the clitoris is the visible
part. It is made of mucus, rather than skin, which
gives it a dark pink colour and makes it extremely
sensitive.
The stalk: This is the part which supports
the head, it isn't usually visible.
The roots: The clitoris continues deep into
the body, where it separates into two roots, which
extend around the outer lips. The clitoris' total
length is around 11cm, head + stalk + root - much
more than you'd think
