Glans: Just like the penis, the clitoris has a glans, or head, which is a super-sensitive area of erectile tissue. There are two main differences however: the glans of the clitoris is a lot smaller than that of the penis, and there is no urinary opening.

Protection: Both organs are protected. The penis has a foreskin, a thin layer of skin which covers the glans and is attached at the frenulum, while the clitoris has a tiny hood, formed from labial tissue.

Erections: Both the penis and the clitoris can have erections. Once the body is turned-on, blood is diverted to both organs for more sensation, which causes them to swell.

Sensitivity: While the penis is the main sexual organ for men, the clitoris rather than the vagina, is actually the main sexual organ for women. It is impossible to compare their sensations, as no-one has ever experienced both kinds of orgasm! As the pleasure sensors are very similar, it is thought that stimulation leads to the same kind of feeling.

Night-time erections: You may not realise, but the clitoris also has erections at night, in the same way as the penis. Although it is much less visible, it works in very much the same way as the penis.
