Abstinence
boosts desire:
30 % of women over 40 don't use contraception, or rely on
natural methods. They're over the pill, fed up with the coil
and have dispensed with condoms as they're in stable, long-term
relationships.
"I watch my cycle and avoid sex for a few key days each month,
"explains Marie. "you just need to know your body.
It's made us think outside the box in terms of lovemaking
on the days when it's not possible to have full intercourse."
Suspense and libido:
No natural method (temperature graph, urine test kits from
chemists) is 100% failsafe, but the fear of falling pregnant
comes second to the desire to feel feminine for older women.
In fact, after the age of 35 female fertility begins to drop.
"The fact that I still may fall pregnant makes me feel twice
as sexy, explains Marie again "but I don't want any more
children. On some unconscious level, I think that for me,
sexual stimulation is definately linked to being able to procreate."
Fear:
The possibility of falling pregnant can boost desire, but
it can also kill it off completely. Natural methods can be
very hit and miss, even if you know your body well, women
can change over time, especially as they get older.
It can also have a negative effect on the male partner, who
may find it hard to overcome the fact that his wife or girlfriend
could produce an unwanted child.
