This year, legendary department store Selfridges is celebrating its 100th birthday. Aside from exclusive products designed especially for the centenary including a yellow Mulberry hold-all, Paul Smith skirt, Lulu Guinness handbag and Giles Deacon dress, Selfridges is hosting a huge festival at its Oxford Street store to mark the exciting occasion.
The event, titled ‘The Big Yellow Festival’, will be a spectacular celebration, serving up fashion, music, vogueing workshops and gay bingo to entertain shoppers. Fridays will be all about music, with fabulous performances on Selfridges’ Yellow Café stage by artists such as VV Brown, Frank Musik and Patrick Wolf. On Saturdays, the store will turn into one big fashion party. Models will parade up and down the escalators, wearing the latest looks from Men’s and Women’s collections, as selected by fashion legend and Fashion East Founder Lulu Kennedy. Designers including Giles Deacon and Henry Holland will accompany them with bespoke DJ sets, taking to the decks to demonstrate their very own mixing skills.
Further entertainment will include ‘Art of Vogueing’ workshops with the fantastic Jonny Woo, who will also be co-hosting rowdy games of gay bingo with Ma Butcher. The party will carry on through to Sundays, with cabaret acts such as Miss High Leg Kick and Le Gateau Chocolat performing.
For all this and much more, be sure not to miss out on The Big Yellow Festival at Selfridges, from 1 – 31 May.
