London is famous for launching hot designers, the kind that grab headlines and earn a visit from Anna Wintour herself. Ours is a truly unique capital with the creative and the conceptual so it’s as important to visit the off-schedule shows, as it is to attend shows by the already established names.
We were bombarded by raw talent on day two of London Fashion Week with a medley of up-and-coming designers beginning with Blow Presents… at the Royal Festival Hall. The off-schedule showcase is a platform for young start-ups, graduates and emerging talent to send their innovative designs down a catwalk. This year we had a treat with four designers giving us an insight into their creative world with Charlie Le Mindu opening proceedings. The Bergerac-born designer began his working life as a child prodigy in the French Hair Academy, cutting hair from teh age of 13, so it’s no surprise that his main medium for fashion design is, yes you guessed it – hair. Architectural shapes and concealed faces, helmets and sculptural head dresses all fashioned from hair made up Le Mindu’s unique brand of ‘haute coiffure’.
