While the ubiquitous gladiator is showing no signs of going anywhere this summer, pick up an embellished pair and you'll look resolutely 2009 (alternatively, dust down last year's and customise!). Evans' brown leather sandals with coin and orange stone detail are bang on trend, while beaded, studded straps give New Look's gladiators edge, and Oasis has a tribal-inspired pair. Colourful ethnic sandals like Faith's flip flops with beaded ankle cuff, Office's hippy ankle-tie version and Miss Selfridge's leather version with bead detailing would all update summer casuals. Bejewelled and metallic sandals are dressier for evening or the office: check out Pied A Terre's gold and silver bead cuff toe-posts, Faith's sandals with simple gold beading and Dorothy Perkins' pewter jewel sandals.
