The recession has hit Lacroix hard: the fashion house has gone into receivershop and has six months to find a financial backer. It's hard to imagine the haute couture shows without this master of baroque and colour, but Lacroix's appearance on Tuesday could well have been his last.
An intimate presentation, then, rather than a show, took place at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, made possible thanks to the unwavering support of staff and suppliers, some of whom have gone unpaid for three years.
Twenty outfits went on show for just 200 guests in contrast to the usual thousands present. The event was tinged with sadness, but also a strong resolve to support Christian Lacroix through its crisis.
