For her second Parisian show, Japanese designer Hiroko Koshino takes inspiration from the animal kingdom: enlarged insect wings spread over fabrics create some impressive visual effects.
A varied palette of colours is on show, with bright shades accompanying black and white, and graphic prints appear on loose muslin and taffeta dresses.
Equally noteworthy are the structures which are based on skilful folding of fabrics. Shoulders benefit from this special treatment as do the bustier sections of dresses. Origami crops up as Hiroko Koshino celebrates large volume with oversized sarouels that balance out close-fitting jackets and waistcoats.
Light woollens, taffetas and traditionally woven Japanese paper are all specially treated to be used in the designs, creating a canvas on which Hiroko Koshino projects a trompe l’œil effect.
