London Fashion Week A/W '10: Prophetik catwalk report | ||||||
Vaxhuall Fashion Scout London Fashion Week - autumn/winter 2010 www.prophetik.com Over at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, proceedings were kicked off my Prophetik, designed by Jeff Garner. They like to do things a little differently at The Scout and this year ushers in an era of sustainability and accountability in fashion. Well, let's hope so... Garner’s Tennessee Southern Shores collection for autumn/winter 2010 was inspired by the American Civil War. The show kicked off in melancholy style with a guitarist and a fiddle player setting the scene followed shortly by a single model in a full-length Victorian-inspired widow gown. As the show turned rock’n’roll, models strutted to live rocking beats from Man Raze (former Sex Pistols and Def Leppard) and Dj Richie Rich. The palette was greys, beiges and blues with odd splash of red. Layers of contrasting thick and thin fabrics, in long, draped, lengths worked a slightly Partisan aesthetic. Capes appeared draped over jacket shoulders and coats while brass buttons nodded towards the 18th century American military. While high collars and high-waists appeared, structure was kept loose as were locks. Models walked the catwalk with swinging shiny dropped curls. The wonderful thing about Prophetik is you know you don’t have to feel guilty about coveting any of it. Thankfully, you’ll never see any fur or pelts in a Prophetik collection – garments are created from organic, recycled or sustainably sourced fabric. Garner’s label goes a long way to dispelling the myths of organic/sustainable clothing equalling frumpy hippy wear. Perhaps in the future some of the names over at Somerset House will adopt a similar philosophy? Let's hope. by Anna-Belle Woollcott |
