London Fashion Week spring/summer 2011 - Day 1

To outsiders, the alien world of fashion can seem as smug and self-satisfied as it is alluring.

But rather than scoff at the trussed up peacocks that are parading around Somerset House for six fleeting days, they’d do better to remember that there’s substance behind the swagger.

A research study (data released to conveniently coincide with fashion week) has announced that the fashion Industry is worth £21 billion to the UK Economy.

But admittedly these are not numbers that get bandied about in the queue for the latest hot catwalk show, more likely what number row you’ve been allocated or how many people you’ve seen wearing the latest Topshop coat.

Not Einstein worthy fare to be sure, but still numbers.

And so it was that Day One of London Fashion Week kicked off in a flurry of towering heels tottering on ancient cobble stones, skillfully combined with a precarious balancing act between Starbucks cup and show invite.
