| Austerity measures may have given the runways a distinct shade of grey and a good coating of black but we still saw encouraging splashes of colour at New York. Bold patterns and lots of lovely texture were also in evidence. Things are looking brighter. |

| NYC went androgynous for autumn/winter, we saw so many suits it was like 6pm at Canary Wharf. Colours were shades of grey and muted pastels with the exceptions of designers that channelled Pop Art for a bit of light relief. |

Bringing a sense of rock 'n' roll to fashion, New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2012 gave an edge to ladylike, loose cuts and elegant tailoring. Colour made a come back and bold new girlie styles ushered in a brave new era of fashion for New York.
