With an explosion of colour and texture, Alexander McQueen’s fashion theatre rolled into town on Tuesday night. But eyes were drawn instinctively down as the footwear really stole the show.
McQueen took the unusual step of broadcasting his Paris catwalk show, 'Plato's Atlantis', worldwide with the help of Nick Knight’s www.showstudio.com. If there’s one trend that goes on to become a perennial favourite let’s hope it’s this one – wouldn’t we all like front row seats to the latest shows!
On the catwalk itself it was business as usual (as “usual” as McQueen’s business ever is) as the designer presented a crazed yet beautiful collection of bright patterned mini-dresses, teamed with the aforementioned killer heels.
Averaging 10-inches in height, the platformed designs included print, paint, jewelled, reptile and plastic effects. The collection had an almost sci-fi aesthetic as models appeared with moulded faces and towering hair. Prosthetic make-up was added giving them the appearance of aquatic aliens… albeit incredibly well-dressed aquatic aliens with fabulous shoes.
