Mature dating: 5 pitfalls to avoid

Dating later in life - whether you’ve been widowed, divorced or simply haven’t found the right person yet - can be tough. Yet, it can also be hugely rewarding. Make sure your experience is a positive one by avoiding these 5 mature Dating pitfalls
By Jules Filsell, relationship advice expert at eHarmony.

Pitfall #1: Doing too much, too soon

We’re going to start with something counterintuitive, as our first tip is to make sure you DON’T throw yourself into Dating if you’re not ready. In order for you to have a great and successful mature dating experience, you need to be 100% focused and clear on what you want.

If you’re still hurting over a broken relationship, or are even hoping you might get back together with your ex - and you have to be totally honest with yourself here - then dating won’t work. You will constantly compare any dates to your former partner, and no one will ever be good enough.

Take the time to heal yourself after your last relationship, whether you have suffered a bereavement or a break-up. The happier you are with yourself, the better the quality of person you’ll attract - no matter what your age.
