:: WHAT IS YOGA?
LE YOGAThe word 'yoga' comes from a Sanskrit word meaning 'union', or more specifically, a union between body and mind.
Yoga is not just about exercise, it is based on the development of a mental attitude to go with the physical postures, learning to observe the present moment, by quietening the mind. By working on the postures, or 'asanas', and concentrating on the breathing ('pranayama', meaning 'working on the breath'), you can calm your mind and tone your body.
Anyone can do yoga, anywhere they like and at any age. You don't even need any special equipment or clothing.
The best way to get started is to learn the basics in a class with a qualified teacher, don't attempt anything you're not sure of on your own!
