The Year Of The Lob! How To Wear The Long Bob Like A Boss

Some good news for the low-maintenance girls - the humble lob is back and it looks like it's here to stay. I mean who ISN'T lobbing it at life rn? You've got Kendall, J-Law, Alexa Chung (the long reigning lob legend) and now new recruit Selena Gomez has joined the short squad too. Apparently shoulder length is the only way to play it for 2017. Here's how to pull it off...

Is it even new year if you're not fighting the urge to change up your tresses? As much as long hair's beautiful and everything, there's just something about the lure of a long bob that makes us want to say ciao to split ends down to our bra strap and bonjour to sophisticated blunt ends. Kendall, if this goes horribly wrong we're blaming you. And Selena Gomez, you're not off the hook either. Just look at this for a new hair debut... hairfies are the new selfies, got it?

Other than everyone knowing you actually have a decolletage now (surprise! Didn't see that hiding underneath that Rapunzel mop did ya), there's also the added bonus of enjoying the low maintenance way of life. A hairband and a brush is about all you'll need when the going gets tough because the lob is basically your ticket to lazy girl central.

Jennifer Lawrence, Hailey Baldwin, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Emma Stone, Emilia Clarke and Khloe Kardashian -the list of lob loving celebs goes on and on. And if you can't beat 'em, we say join 'em. But before we all take the leap, let's hear everything there is to know about lob life from the people who know. Joanna Williamson Director of Styling at aer Blowdry Bar gives the low down on the hottest hairstyle on the block...

"Having shorter hair is always liberating and the new year is the perfect time to change up your style and re-invent your look to make your locks feel fresh and heathy. Having shorter hair always looks its best when left natural or styled with loose waves to bring out your hair's natural movement. It's worth knowing that shorter hair can be harder to maintain if you're used to long hair, especially if it's a big chop as your hair grows back quicker and takes some time to know how to style it, but with regular conditioning treatments and a professional blow dry, it will keep its shape." If that's not an excuse to get a bouncy blow dry on the regular then we don't know what is!

How to wear it

Even though the lob is partial to a bit of help in the blow dry department, the slept-in style looks just as good in our humble opinion. Rough it up with lots of texture and some lazy waves a la Khloe Kardashian - she's the one to watch for nailing I-woke-up-like-this tresses. Failing that, Alexa Chung and Rosie HW are pretty good at smoothing it behind their ears to create an elegant twist on the fun loving lob, while Margot Robbie proves that it still looks amazing even when it comes to growing it out. See, who said shorter hair had limits?
